Interesting Comments pipol...No doubt I agree with you all! The public service is staffed by people who don't know what is required for them to do...they sit and our tax money grows their pot bellies and backsides;
The department of labour & indistrial relations, immigration services, commerce are run by dead logs; burnt beyond reccognition and usable age.
The Public Service Graduate Developemtn Scheme is a great initiative to address such. It's partly funded by AUSAID. But as Zannii mentioned minimal number recruited....WHY? Because only certian Departments and Provincial Governments(None) are participating...Only some depts( very few) have created GR 8 - GR - 12 Internship Positions for the scheme whilst ohters choose to do nothing!
Guys the system may be okay but its the people in the system! Wed them out. And I hope all you guys do something or be part of something that contributes to change.
Research, discuss and put recomendations. Don't be self-centered. Concentrating on yourself, your GF/BF Wife/Hubby & family lain tasol. And I would love if females sometimes cut the kitty cutie talks , giggles & laughs and lets think big, act in a small way, share love and build a better society.

I totally agree with Barth. look the asians saw an oppurtunity to start businesses (not only market oppurtunities but also loop holes in the law plus the fact that the govt doesnt seem serious about enforcing it) and they took it.

not only that but powes parkop was right in stating that cbo's & ngo's that got involved actually motivated the public in the wrong direction. there are better ways of making a stance and a statement if the need be.

and how about the govt actually start creating employment oppurtunities....one graduate program that probably recriutes 27 graduates in a year is completly unrealistic....

Barth I TOTALLY agree with you. It was shameful seeing looters running around with boxes of tinfish at Goroka in the recent lootings. Instead Of the Falcon jet and increasing their allowences, they should use the money to create more emploment, subsidise settlement childrens school fees so growing up the can avoid crime get jobs and develope this land of the unexpected.

Java Muno, looking at the broader scope here, who should we blame?

Well i think that was a real wake up call for our government and the various institutions concerned here. Clearly we cannot blame the citizens who took part in looting Asian owned busineses around the country over the weekend. It is our goverment and its policies we should blame. Either the public servents are not implementing the policies or because of government interference into the depatmental affairs. It is clearly demonstrated on the front page of todays National newspaper (Wed:May,20,2009). Rules 'bent for mining project'. Here we see Chinese nationals employed by the Ramu Nickel mine being issued work permits despite not meeting Papua New Guinea's Labour Law.

The state considers the mine far more important than the social threats to the country. If the government continues to turn a blind to these issues and and takes time to address these situations we are for sure heading for crisis. The government should also make policies that will enable all citizens their rights to basic education. Only through education can we be able to understand and appreciate the Asians.

We cannot chase them away, they are here to stay so we should appreciate it and learn to live with them. By doing so, we work together in partnership for the betterment of the motherland. Afterall, Papua New Guinea is doing great. This is the transitional era, where we learn new things, try crazy ideas and so on....Everything that is seen to be going on wrong today is just part of the package.

Pull up your socks people, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Hey guys! I'm interested in joining this group because it has a lot to do with my future career. Hi pips, what do you think about the protest march by PNGeans and the riot that caused the closer of Chinese shops in Pom and Lae? Should the perpetrators be charge and prosecute?
Wasen Comment by Wasen on April 4, 2009 at 6:46pm

Music Piracy in PNG

Music piracy in Papua New Guinea (PNG) is rife due to the lack of enforcement of the Copyright and Neighboring Rights Act 2000. Some business houses in PNG are doing illegal reproduction of cassettes, CD’s, and Videos and redistributing it for sale. Individuals too are copying music from friends because of technology like computers that allow individuals to rip music from CD’s and burn a copy.

All these above together with internet down loads are is a major concern for the world music industry. Fortunately for the United States of America Congress has approved to increase the penalties and fine for copyright infringement and music piracy. Back home in PNG progress on the implementation of anti-piracy laws is non-that I have heard of.

I am concern about the loss sustain by the PNG music industry. Our local music industry has the capacity to grow into a multi-million kina industry where those involved get royalties, commissions and remuneration for what is rightfully theirs, where the artists, composers, producers, record labels and those involved in marketing, distribution and promotion are able to work as their full time employment. This leads to job creation and tax revenue for the government.

Though there is no available statistics on the cost of music piracy on the music industry the loss I believe is substantial. It has cost people in the music industry their livelihood. They have dependents to support too. Music piracy is just as morally equivalent to stealing.

So the next time you go shopping and come across pirated cassettes and CD’s report it to the ( …You see even I don’t know who to report the matter to… ) and for friends copying music through CD ripping and burning, you are stealing. It is just the same as you stealing a packet of rice from the store. Say no to piracy and support our local music industry.

It is must be made part of our developmental agenda. We develop the music industry we develop PNG too.

Okay, i agree with what Zannii said.
But all in all we as PNG'eans should all be proud that we've come this far. Alot is said and is going to be said about our country but the way i see things are going to get better!

Every country has had their share of misfortune and all that is often forgotten when things turn-out alright!!!

Me? I am just proud that I come from this country!!!!!!

33 years on and what do we have to show?

good question....but then again what else do we have to be grateful for? let's see..... we're free aren't we? we have diverse resources....ummm what else? most of the land is owned by the ppol (very rare around the world)....and the list goes on.....so where is the problem?

we png'eans have a habit of pointing fingers, if ppol can change their mentality and start taking responsibilty for their actions then maybe we can FINALLY get on the right course.

look at history...PNG was heading down the right path and then what happended? SELF INTEREST...

True...our leaders are serving their own needs...question is...who put them there in the first place? who gave the the mandate to lead....

c'mon PNG...bai yumi sa stat long ting ting...
